Public Media Corps gets community feedback via “Cool Spots”

Public Media Corps (PMC),the National Black Programming Consortium’s project to promote broadband adoption among underserved communities, is well underway. Since its summer launch in Washington, D.C., fifteen fellows have been working in four neighborhoods predominantly consisting of African-American, Latino and immigrant residents. Special “Cool Spots”—mobile hubs for Net access—have been set up at public events like block parties so residents can share their thoughts with the PMC via netbooks. The Cool Spots also provide free WiFi. The PMC will use feedback to choose three or four projects for the fellows and their community partners to focus on.
